In these days, while I was looking for something about how CSR is recognised in Asia, I ve found an on-line survey which was created by CSR in ASIA across 14 countries and participated in 80 CSR Managers on 2 November 2008. You can see the survey results ->>clicking on this <<-
In this article I'll talk about this researching a little bit. If you wonder explainations of the survey and my opinions, just keep reading.
At the first, I want to say simple facts about survey. Despite survey doesn't explain detailed informations in CSR in ASIA, It s useful to understand the role of CSR in Asia. Most of participants of survey are working for energy and health care based companies. As a result we can understand that, companies which have high risk potential on environment and health, are more interested in CSR than other firms.
The survey says "CSR is often confused with philanthropy in Asia with many companies only reporting their philanthropic activities under the banner of CSR"! It shows that lack of knowledge about CSR as a concept and has wrong implementation in Asia Region. The survey results also highlight levels of CSR Managers are not enough to create sustainable business strategies and plans.(Most of participants are only in senior or junior management level. Board level presentation is just 15%)
The biggest challenges they faced by CSR Manager are lack of budget and too small CSR teams, at first. But may be the most surprising response is " What areas of CSR is CSR Manager responsible for?"
While CSR Reporting, Environment and Stakeholder Relations have highest rates, however Human Rights, Supply Chain and Diversity areas unfortunately have lowest rates! This is really interesting result.
In the end, I can say that CSR has a long way to take in Asia, When it compared to Europe.
